This Special Edition of the Lahore Journal of Economics has been compiled from the papers read out at the First Annual Conference on Management of the Pakistan Economy held by the Lahore School of Economics from 28th April to 30th April 2005. The conferences will be held every year and are intended to contribute substantially to the teaching and research agenda of the Lahore School of Economics. At this first conference, eminent economists and personalities from other walks of life presented their papers. The subjects for the conference were chosen keeping in mind their topicality and relevance for Pakistan’s growing economy. The Chief Guest was Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Governor, State Bank of Pakistan, who made an insightful and valuable presentation. The audience and participants included not just the faculty and students of the School, but people evincing a keen interest in this field.  This Special Edition is meant to disseminate the findings of this conference more widely at both the national and international levels.
